You are open about your love of music, and especially Johnny Cash. Do you have a favorite song of his?
Ooooh, fun question. Gosh, there are quite a few. I love Jackson, Ring of Fire (which I adore that June wrote it), Man in Black is amazing. And then one that many people haven’t heard of is: The Wanderer. He sings it with U2 and it might be one of my favorite songs ever. In fact, I’m playing it right now. Thanks for reminding me about it

You used to be a dancer? What kind? Will we ever see footage of said dancing?

You write about strong women. I love it and I am sure your readers love it. What else would you love to write about, given the chance?

I am sure it is hard to write being a mom. Do you have a scheduled writing time, or just write when you can fit it in?
I write when I can, just fit it in. I love to write in huge blocks of time, but it just doesn’t happen as often as I like so I find time in small moments. The hard part is balancing with your family. I want to be the mom who drops everything to hang out with her kid, but at the same time, it’s so important for my son to watch me follow my dreams and see the work it takes to do that.
My favorite story about this very thing took place after one deadline when I was up all night and my husband was out of town for work. It was 7:00 am and my son was just getting up and I couldn’t function anymore. I asked if he could watch a movie so I could get two hours of sleep (he was about seven or eight). He agreed, so I fell asleep and he woke me up precisely at 9:00am, delivering a bowl of Cheerios in almond milk and a glass of juice to my bed. Best thing ever!!

We sure love those sexy heroes! Where do you get your inspiration for them? Is it in more than one place?
Oh yeah, it’s everywhere. For Noah, in Before You Go, he shares some traits with my husband. My favorite quality about Noah is that he is so excepting of everything with Tabby. My husband is the exact same way with me.
Sometimes I get ideas from a line in a movie, or a gesture I see out in public, or a story I hear about someone. Or just in my imagination. And I like revealing a hero’s character in his actions. That’s one of the best parts about writing.

Your readers want to know more about you. Can you tell us your fave book as a child, or about the book that inspired you to start writing your own?
I loved Pippi Longstocking as a kid and adored Dr. Seuss. As a pre-teen and teen, Judy Blume rocked my world. As did S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders is one of my all-time favorite books.
Harry Potter reminded me of my love of magic as an adult, and I even tried writing some paranormal stories for a while. Laura Halse Anderson, Sherman Alexie, and Sara Zarr made me fall in love with contemporary YA. Of course, I was swept up in Twilight and the Hunger Games series. Colleen Hoover made me crazy for New Adult. Gillian Flynn reinvigorated my fascination with thrillers. Nora Roberts is my mainstay in romance. I could honestly talk about book inspiration for days and days!
