Blog Tour w/Review # 1 - NEVER TOO LATE

Title: Never Too Late
Series: Home in the Heartland #1
Author: Sloan Johnson
Genre: Adult, M/M Romance
Published: March 7, 2016
Dax: My life ended six years ago. No, really. I was dead on the side of the road following a gruesome motorcycle accident. From what I've been told, it's only because of one stubborn man that I have another chance to make something of my life. I no longer hate him for screwing up what I thought I wanted. I want to thank him. NEED to tell him what his actions mean to me.

Now, I’m headed back to the town I’ve never set foot in even though it’s a huge part of my life. I’m not thrilled about that, but the job offers haven’t exactly been flowing in. They’ll probably think I’m crazy, because there’s no way I won’t be able to look at every guy I walk past, wondering if he’s the one who saved me.

Michael: My entire life, I wanted to save lives. I’d earned a full-ride scholarship and had been accepted to med schools across the country. I was so close to making those dreams a reality until the night held a dying man in my arms. I’ve never been able to get the images of his lifeless body caked in mud out of my head. Even when the paramedics tried to take over trying to save him, I couldn’t let go. I never let go. Eventually, my guilt over not doing more cost me everything but my son. And now, I worry I’ll lose him if I don’t get it together.

I’ve often thought that if I could find him, maybe I could get some closure and finally get my life back on track. Now he’s here and I’m more of a mess than ever. Once the truth comes out, will he keep trying to save me or will he realize that it’s too late?

Michael and Dax keep meeting under less than ideal circumstances. Michael is quick to assure Dax this is not normal. Dax is very understanding.

Dax has moved to this small town to start over after tragedy rocked his world. In this new life he is creating, he wants to make friends and be kind to his neighbors. Along the way, Michael's son makes all of this come together.

Michael and Dax may have more than they counted on. As they find out more about each other's lives, they may get more than they ask for. It is a good thing they are good friends too.

A very moving story. I was riveted, and could not put it down! The characters and the story are both challenging and sweet.

1. What is the easiest thing about writing?

By far, the easiest part of writing is the writing itself. There’s something amazing to me about writing that first draft, getting to know my characters, and following their journey to a happy life. It’s everything that comes after that that is soul crushing. Just kidding. It’s not really that bad, but revisions, edits, revisions, edits, release, promotion, etc are definitely harder!

2. What author (living or dead) would you want a chance to sit down and talk to?
Jacquelyn Mitchard, without a doubt. I’ve always loved reading, but until I read A Theory of Relativity, I never understood how a work of fiction could touch my life in a very real, raw way. I was at a very dark time in my own life and there was one passage in that book that made me feel as though I wasn’t alone in the world. I’d love to thank her for that. Not only did it help me get through then, but it has driven me to write from the heart and hope that someday I can impact one person’s life the way she did mine.

3. Is there a story behind your cover?
I try to make sure my covers tie into the story. With Never Too Late, I actually had the cover before I’d fully thought about the story. I was lucky enough to meet Scott Nova last year after interacting online for over a year on social media. I knew, almost instantly, that he was my Michael. Not only did he fit the character, but Scott is an amazing person. From there, I gave Jay Aheer the details about the book and let her run with it. Cover artists are as much storytellers as authors are, but they use images where we use words.

4. Is this book part of a series?
Is sort of a valid answer? I had originally intended it to be a standalone, but as usual, my characters like to remind me who’s in charge. At this point, I think it’s safe to say there will be at least one more book.

5. If you couldn’t write, what would you do for a living?
I have no clue! Before I started writing for a living, I was the butt of many jokes. My dad’s friends used to ask me if I was trying to sample every job out there before deciding what I wanted to do. In hindsight, they weren’t completely wrong. I’ve always loved to write, but I didn’t think it possible to make a living writing. Once I realized that my passion could also pay the rent, I settled in and have been typing away for years now!
Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s life. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.

When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.

Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?

Now, Sloan is a tattooed mom with a mohawk and two kids. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself with a good book and forget she has somewhere to be.
