Neve send a letter to Rory inviting him to be her pen pal.  He happily responds.  For about a year they talk back and forth.  They share things with each other that they do not feel comfortable to share with others. Neve has been hurt in the past.  There is much to hide and she plans and wiping the slate clean and starting over somewhere else.  Right now, her plans are to earn a spot in the coveted Cirque du Soleil.   Rory comes home and wants to see her.  On his previous leave, she had told him never to come back.  The night he arrives, they fight.  Then he realizes how sick she is and talks her brother in to taking them to the hospital.
