This is book # 4 in the Friends First series.   It can be read as a standalone. I recommend reading any series book in order for reader enjoyment and understanding.  Jack and Maya met the same night she met her ex-husband. Their relationship, if you can call it that, is a very complicated one. He was a foster child taken in by her ex-husbands family. She was someone he wanted but couldn't have.
