Stephanie is working in an interim position.  At a major charity event, she meets someone who can change her whole life.  If she has the courage to let him in. Lucas meets Stephanie at an event.  He is drawn to her immediately.  They do not really have much in common.  But neither can stay away.... This is book # 5, in the Cold Fury Hockey series .   This book can be read as a standalone novel.  In the best interests of enjoying and understanding the series, however, I recommend reading this terrific series in order.   Hawke and Vale have a past full of turmoil and secrets.  They meet up again as they both come to work for the Cold Fury.  The anger they both feel when they lock eyes at first... Vale has so much on her plate now.  Hawke wants to be understanding and make amends without causing her more turmoil.  He cannot seem to stop wanting her despite the divide that threatens to grow bigger between them. Alex's story is the first in the Cold Fury series.  I decided to re-read it and review after my enjoyment of the Ryker book I reviewed earlier this month.  These are all standalone novels.  For understanding and enjoyment I always recommend reading series in order. Alexander Crossman is known for his "I don't care" attitude on and off the ice.  He has such a reputation that even fans know to stay away from him.  He just cannot bring himself to care.  He plays hockey, but he does not like it.
