REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW

This is the 2nd book in A Virgin, A Billionaire and a Marriage series. I recommend reading these in order, although it is not necessary to enjoy the book.

Mari and Alexi meet at a nightclub. She is starting to realize being a genius is not enough to have a full life. She flirts with his cousin and ends up a witness to a double murder.

Alexi was there as a consultant to other billionaires who owned and were opening the nightclub. He does not want his filthy cousin to touch or interfere with Mari's life. After finding out her life is in danger he does his best to help.

Mari is not sure what to do. She wants to call the police and does not understand the full extend of what has happened to her life. Alexi tries to explain and there is much heat and a large learning curve.

They are both attracted to one another. Alexi has to go out of his way to protect her. Doing things like locking her up and not letting her go home. It may take some serious convincing to help her see the gravity of the situation.

This book is surprise after surprise. There is definitely something for everyone. The bad guys are convincing and the chemistry between the main characters runs HOT! I had only one real complaint. I felt the story was rushed at the end and should have been longer to feel smoother.

EXCERPT:

“If I take these contacts out, you can be half an inch from my nose, and you’ll still be blurry. And that’s scary. I hate not being able to see.”

I hear what she’s saying, concede the point... but her attitude still gets under my skin. I’m not used to being challenged. I don’t care for it.

Bending over again, I lean in until I’m what I estimate is that half inch from her nose. She sucks in a breath, and I can see the smallest of shivers pass over her skin as I deliberately, purposefully, invade her space.

“So you’re saying that if I were this close to you... or even closer... you still wouldn’t be able to see me?” Infusing my voice with the charm that I learned at an early age works well on the ladies, I feel a small surge of triumph when I note her resultant shiver.

I’m not the only one feeling this strange connection. I’m sure of it.

“No. No, I... I wouldn’t be able to see you.” Mari’s tongue flicks out to dance over her full lips, and I stifle a groan, blood rushing to my groin. Her nerves, her naiveté... it’s fresh and new and it excites the hell out of me.

“I wouldn’t be able to see you, but I could feel you.”

She’s done it again. Shocked at the words that have just come out of her mouth, I pull back slowly, my eyes locking onto her like I’m a predator and she’s my prey.

“You’d be able to feel me?” I repeat, savoring the taste of the words on my tongue. Does she have any idea how provocative she sounds?

The way her eyes widen tells me she doesn’t. I watch as she swallows, the muscles of her throat working as she and her big brain try to discern what has changed.

“I... I didn’t mean...” At her sides, her hands clench into fists and then relax again. This time, the acceleration of her breathing tells me that her uncertainty is quickly morphing into panic.

I don’t mind making a woman nervous, but I have no interest in scaring one. Still, it is very nearly painful to pull back from her, and yet again, I can’t explain why.

About Lauren Hawkeye:

Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson never imagined that she’d wind up telling stories for a living… though when she looks back, it’s easy to see that she’s the only one who is surprised.
Always “the kid who read all the time”, Lauren made up stories about her favorite characters once she’d finished a book… and once spent an entire year narrating her own life internally.

No, really. But where she was just plain odd before publication, now she can at least claim to have an artistic temperament.

Lauren lives in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada with her husband, toddler, pit bull and idiot cat, though they do not live in an igloo, nor do they drive a dogsled.

In her nonexistent spare time Lauren can be found knitting (her husband claims that her snobby yarn collection is exorbitant), reading anything she can get her hands on, or sweating her way through spin class. She loves to hear from her readers!
